SUMMARY

This position handles many and varied responsibilities with minimal direction from an attorney. The degree to which a qualified person can perform the functions handled by attorneys will be limited only by the abilities and motivation of the person in this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Manages Company's trademark portfolio, including interacting with Advertising Department and outside trademark counsel regarding trademark registration and maintenance, maintaining trademark records and files.

 

  • Review marketing materials and a significant number of other communications for compliance with trademark guidelines, advertising guidelines , risk reduction concerns, and general legal compliance.
  • Organize transactional documents and organize closing documents in both routine and complex transactions.
  • Organize and maintain corporate and subsidiary records; drafts subsidiary corporate resolutions, handles corporate filings.
  • Guide and Manage corporate wide record retention process.
  • Guide and Manage real estate transaction and other real estate matters.
  • Respond to client requests for routine documents, contracts, and forms (e.g., confidentiality agreements). In some cases this will require preparation of legal documents.
  • Handle routine office tasks as necessary.
  • Perform a variety of special projects as assigned.
  • Provide oversight and direction to many outside lawyers/firms.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Paralegal degree or program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to craft a written response to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with outside counsel on legal matters. Effectively communicate with employees and management to promote and execute legal initiatives. Ability to prepare and give presentations for employees, management and the board of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts.

 

ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

Working familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to learn and master specialized legal database and other software.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
